22.4km ROAD COMMISSIONED

 

COMMISSIONING OF THE NYAKABANDE-NYABIHUNIKO-KABINDI –BUNAGANA ROAD AT MURAMBA SUBCOUNTY HEADQUARTERS

On 4/12/2018 a 22.4km road funded by UNHCR was commissioned by the Kisoro district RDC Capt.Mugisha Peter.

During the commissioning, the Muramba LC3 chairman, Mr Nzabona Francis hailed the UNCHR for the great job saying the project covered 12 villages in muramba S/C.Nzabona said the sub county receive huge numbers of refugees who use services like water, health services among others. He hailed UNHCR for thinking about Muramba as a sub county where refugees pass every day.

Fungai mutasa who works with UNHCR thanked the government of Uganda for the privileges given to the refugees. He was amazed by the warm reception Kisoro people accord to the refugees and the necessary protection. Mutasa also praised UNCHR and Kisoro district especially the District engineer for the work they tirelessly did. He asked for continuous cooperation both UNHCR and the district.

Samuel Daniel from the OPM and at the same time Camp commandant Nyakabande hailed UNHCR and Kisoro District for taking the lead in caring for the refugees. To him he said it is a success. He thanked the people of Kisoro for standing with OPM and UNHCR because when refugees steal or behave badly in any way they are not mistreated.

Mrs Rose Manirakiza said Uganda is among the few countries in Africa that receive and host refugees especially in Kisoro district. She also noted that Kisoro district is expecting more refugees during the time of elections in the DRC. Mrs Manirakiza commended UNHCR for the number of programs in the district including conserving the environment and the vehicle they donated to the District among others.

The Kisoro district RDC Capt.Mugisha Peter who presided over the commissioning of the road, hailed the Kisoro district leadership that requested the UNHCR to come to their aid. Thanked the community that worked with engineers to put the road on. The RDC noted that people should be responsible for their facilities and requested LC1 chairmen to encourage people to go back to bulungi bwansi in order to care for their projects.He advised the responsible people to always shade light to the people on government projects before working on them so that the wanainchi can know what is going on.On refugees the RDC requested communities not to keep them (refugees) in their homes since most of them come with different intentions. He again requested for more funding from UNHCR since many areas in Kisoro are badly-off.

 

The RDC commissioned the road in presence of the district officials including Byiringiro Elizabeth Rita who is the principal secretary in office of the CAO and at the same time the Refuge Focal Person,Sub county Chiefs of the benefited sub counties,LCV coumcillors among others.
